While all teams at this stage of a tournament deserve respect, a team as talented and (since Fabio Capello's arrival) professional as the current England squad should expect to qualify for the next phase with some comfort.

The Americans are capable of springing a surprise (as Spain found this summer in the Confederations Cup), but neither Slovenia nor Algeria look likely to trouble us.

Argentina, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands have also been given favourable treatment in today's draw.

But hosts South Africa may struggle in a group which includes Mexico and France.

At least the Brazilians and Portugese won't have any barrier to on the pitch accusations of cheating

Ditto for 3/4s of Group H.

But, the big question is. Will England get to wear the red shirts when they play the USA?
